Springfield, Oregon, is located in Lane County and is opposite the Interstate 5 Freeway from Eugene, Oregon. Named after a natural spring located within the current city boundaries, Springfield was incorporated in 1885 and today is home to over 53,000 residents.

One of Oregon's most important wild rivers is McKenzie river which passes through northern Springfield. The river begins in the Cascade Range glaciers and flows into the Willamette river just outside of western Springfield. In addition to the native trout, the river is also an excellent part of local natural tourism.

Springfield is easily reached via roadway because of its proximity along Interstate 5. Rail travel is just 7 miles away at the Eugene-Springfield Amtrack Train Station. Travel by commercial airline is simple at Eugene's Mahlon Sweet Airport about 17 miles away.
